Chapter Update
Posted over 8 years ago by Sharen Martin
Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful spring weather!
In chapter news, there will be 4 more educational programs offered this year as part of the regular chapter meetings. Speakers include Anne Bennett, RN, DNP who will present on Pacemakers; Sheri Carey RN, DNP, who will present a pediatric topic, and Bethany Jagdharry RN, CDE who will present an update on diabetes management. Attached is the flyer about the April meeting. Amber Andrews, RN, CPNP and Carisa Elmore RN, CPNP-AC from the Neuro Institute will be presenting on current trends in adult and pediatric neurosurgery. They give fantastic lectures so please plan on coming to support AACN, our local chapter and to learn the latest and greatest in neurosurgery.
Our appreciation to Olivia Fallis-Merick RN who recently accepted the role of CE coordinator for the chapter. She navigated the new online program approval process so that we will be able to offer AACN credit for all of our presentations.
Chelsea Stallings, RN CCRN and Ashley McClain RN, CCRN, both pediatric critical care nurses from Memorial are the recipients of our first ever NTI scholarships! They are both very excited about going to Houston, TX for their first NTI and have promised to come back and give us a full account of this amazing experience. We hope to continue this scholarship next year, along with scholarships to the Region 6 Conference in September.
Many congratulations to Beth McCarthy RN, CCRN, a Memorial trauma ICU nurse who recently celebrated her 30th year as a CCRN!!!! What an exemplary role model for professionalism in critical care nursing.
In the on-going update of our website, new and renewing memberships are available through the GSAC website. If you are a current member you will receive a renewal email 60 days prior to expiration and can go directly to the website to pay and renew. If you are not currently a National AACN member, you can also join this plus the local chapter via the GSAC website. Check out the website https://gsacaacn.nursingnetwork.com and see how easy it is. In addition, please register for lectures on the website so we can get an idea of how many people are attending and how many we need to provide dinner for. We are still planning PCCN, CCRN-Adult and CCRN-Peds review courses and you will be able to register for these on line as well.
We will soon be posting pictures of current board members along with meeting and lecture highlights. Many thanks to Theresa Campbell and Jean Humphreys for getting us up to speed!
Finally, we are still in need of a someone to act as treasurer for the organization. This is a great way to obtain points for a professional ladder or to enhance your resume.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the April meeting. Bring a friend or colleague and remember you do not need to be a GSAC member to attend.
Sharen Martin, BSN, RN, CCRN
President
