GSAC Update

Posted almost 7 years ago by Sharen Martin

Hi Everyone,
Hope everyone is doing well! Just wanted to send out an update on current happenings in our chapter. First of all, we want to say a sincere and grateful thank you to Lola King for being our president this past year. She did a fantastic job and we appreciate all her hard work and support. Sheri Carey, DNP, APRN, PCNS-BS, CCRN is our new incoming president. Sheri is the director of the RN to BSN program at Georgia Southern. The remainder of the board includes Ashley Parker as Secretary, Sharen Martin as Treasurer, Kolby Adams as Membership Chair, and at large members Olivia Falls-Merrick, Jean Humphreys and St.Joe/Candler representative Ashley Parker.

We just returned from an excellent Region VI conference in Atlanta where the chapter was well represented with seven members attending. The registration fee for each and every member was paid for by the chapter. We also were invited to attend a dinner sponsored by smith&nephew. The dinner was at an excellent downtown Italian restaurant and approximately 30 of attended, including the new President of AACN, Lisa Riggs. As keynote speaker, she gave an inspirational lecture describing herself and the philosophy behind this year’s mission statement “Our Voice, Our Strength”.There is a picture of all of us with Lisa on the chapter’s facebook page.

Our next meeting will be October 17th. The lecture will be “Functional Use of Hemodynamics in the ICU”, presented by Talia Petite, BSN, RN, CCRN, CCTN, Clinical Field Specialist with Lifesciences, who is sponsoring the event. The flyer will be posted shortly. Thanks very much to Ashley Parker, RN, BSN, CCRN, Clinical Nurse Educator ICU/NICU at St. Joe/Candler for setting this up.

We will have a board meeting prior to the lecture and welcome everyone who would like to join us! We are currently in the planning stages for a one-day educational conference sometime around St. Patrick’s Day.

Best Regards,
Sharen Martin, BSN, RN, CCRN
